Case Study
Global Pharmaceutical Healthcare Company
Our client is a global, multi-national pharmaceutical healthcare company employing ~100,000 staff in over 150 countries.
At a glance
Our client is a global, multi-national pharmaceutical healthcare company employing ~100,000 staff in over 150 countries. As an organisation operating in the healthcare eco-system, they recognise the necessity to provide optimal workplace conditions for their own staff, enabling them to thrive from both a health and performance perspective.
The Challenge
Owning an enormous real estate portfolio provides our client with a large operational expenditure.
As such, there is huge value to the organisation in developing facilities and real estate that is more operationally efficient and high performing.
Several questions face our client in trying to design such efficient and high-performing real estate:
Real Estate Performance
How does their current real estate perform?
Workplace Design
What type of workplace designs are suitable for their various business units?
Employee Health & Performance
How do different workplace designs impact health & performance?
Uplift & ROI
What workplace innovations provide uplift in building and human performance and what is the return on investment?
Scientific Process
In order to evidence the impact of these innovations on both office and human performance, our client engaged our services as a partner with the capacity & expertise to design, measure and collect data to support future real-estate portfolio strategies
In addition to the technical challenges presented in this project, a number of logistical obstacles were apparent at the onset.
– Data anonymity
– Passive data collection
– Flexibility around employees joining & leaving smart office
– Consenting & onboarding
– Identification & procurement of accurate measurement technologies
– Scheduling of investigations in-line with employee availability
The Solution
We designed a systematic process that enables us to provide data insights that both combines (pilots) AND isolates (sprints) the surrounding environment, the employee and the various innovative technologies.
Sprint – A specific, controlled and rapid investigation into the impact of a single innovation (e.g. the impact of different light settings on cognitive performance)
Pilot – An ongoing tracking of the impact the WPH has on; employee health & performance, the environmental conditions, asset utilisation, and occupancy.
To collect data, we have identified (or developed) a plethora of devices, software and hardware that has enabled us to provide the requisite insight to our clients.
Wearable technologies
Cognitive performance applications
Environmental tracking sensors
Pulse survey tool
Benefits
Subsequently, we have been able to feedback data and insight to our stakeholders that has enabled them to make informed, evidence-based decisions that will provide a tangible impact on business performance.
The benefits of our services on this project are several-fold and ongoing;
1. Evidence to re-design real estate to develop high performing buildings
2. Data to support the integration of many workplace innovations
3. Ability to evaluate the long-term impact of workplace design changes
4. A high return on investment
Too often real estate is measured only in financial terms, whereas the true measure should be the value (or not) of the employee experience and productivity it derives. ART Health Solutions helped us quantify and define this value so we in turn can make more holistic portfolio and workplace decisions.
